The excitement was palpable as the EB community was treated to a surprise visit from several members of the Cal Women's Basketball team. Students enjoyed games, as well as an inspiring Q&A session as the team prepared for their Oui-Play tournament in Paris by learning some French at EB.
Cal Women's Basketball Team Visits EB
It's probably not an understatement to say that the EB Middle School Community was ecstatic to welcome several members of the Cal Women’s Basketball team—Grace McCallop, Naya Ojukwu, Gisella Maul, and Lola Donez—for an afternoon filled with one-on-one connection, friendly competition, and team-building collaboration last month.
These impressive young athletes visited our students and staff to share their experiences in college athletics and to mark their upcoming participation in the 2025 Oui-Play tournament in Paris, France. Spending time on the EB campus provided the team with a chance to practice some French words and learn a little more about French culture before their big trip. Meanwhile, an open Q&A with the team gave our students an excellent opportunity to learn more about real life as student-athletes, as well as share in the team’s excitement before their international trip (many selfies were had).
Highlights of the afternoon activities included a lively French culture-inspired version of Jeopardy!, a three-point shootout, and even a friendly match between the Cal players and our teachers (highlighted by a basket from Mr. Senghor! Bravo!)
Closing out the day in the spirit of collaboration, students created bracelets and banners as gifts for the team and sent them off through a celebratory tunnel, wishing them bonne chance à Paris!
The visit was an inspiring reminder of the power of teamwork, language, and global connection, with the Cal athletes serving as excellent role models on and off the court. Merci !
