G6 & G8 Lab Visit: Polar Pod Expedition

Middle school students had a unique opportunity to learn about the remarkable Polar POD expedition, led by renowned explorer Jean-Louis Étienne, who visited campus with his team while their vessel was docked in San Francisco. The Polar POD studies the Southern Ocean to deepen our understanding of climate change and biodiversity, providing an engaging real-world connection to science.


A Hands-On Visit From the French Polar POD Expedition

In the 8th grade lab, students investigated the effects of climate change and ocean acidification, while 6th graders explored how scientists carry out research aboard the Polar POD. It was an inspiring experience highlighting science, exploration, and global cooperation.
