Dr. Gabrielle B. Dreyfus, ’93, is the 2025 recipient of EB’s Alumni Spotlight Award. We are proud to spotlight her inspiring leadership at the intersection of climate science and public policy, and for the ways her bilingual education continues to shape her life and work. A climate scientist and policy expert focused on slowing global warming by tackling powerful “super pollutants” like methane, Gabrielle truly embodies EB’s mission to prepare students who “belong in the world” as active participants, ready to help change it for the better.
AN INTERVIEW WITH GABRIELLE DREYFUS
Gabrielle credits her parents’ choice of EB and a bilingual education with opening doors throughout her life, from her joint PhD in Geosciences between Princeton University and Université Pierre et Marie Curie/Sorbonne Université, to a career that blends cutting-edge climate research and international diplomacy.
After EB, Gabrielle studied Earth and Planetary Sciences at Harvard University, graduating magna cum laude with highest honors before pursuing graduate work in France and the United States. Her early research included reconstructing past climate using Antarctic ice cores, work that deepened her understanding of how today’s emissions will shape the planet for generations.
Today, Gabrielle serves as Chief Scientist at the Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development in Washington, DC, where she leads the science team focused on strategies to cut powerful “super pollutants” like methane, improve energy efficiency, and protect carbon sinks. She has held influential roles at the U.S. Department of Energy, the ClimateWorks Foundation’s Clean Cooling Collaborative, and as chair of a National Academies committee on atmospheric methane removal.
Currently an adjunct lecturer at Georgetown University, Gabrielle also teaches and mentors students on shaping national science policy, often drawing on her experience in the U.S. Senate, federal agencies, and international negotiations. Through ongoing collaborations with French institutions and participation in high-level climate forums, she continues to use her bilingualism—and her EB foundation—to build bridges between science, policy, and countries working together for a safer climate future.
