EB Students Envision Possibility: TEDxYouth@EB 2024
Sue Campbell, Middle School English Teacher & TEDxYouth@EB Director
The annual production of TEDxYouth@EB, originally begun by a handful of motivated EB parents and teachers in 2015, remains an enduring legacy at the Middle School. On January 25, a packed in-person audience attended our ninth TEDxYouth@EB event, where the them was "Possibility." The talks are now live, and available worldwide from the official TEDxYouth@EB website.
About the 2023-2024 Program: Possibility
Eleven student and two adult speakers (one alumnus and one parent) shared their talks on a live sound stage, with topics ranging from extraterrestrial life to green cities and urban farming.
Talks were organized into sub themes: Student Life, Health and Wellness, Scienceand Technology and Sustainability and ranged in topic from the rabbit holes of misinformation challenging student researchers to the eco-ethical dilemma: ice cubes or ice caps. Our alumnus speaker Matthew Pech 1999 spoke about his early lessons in science class with Michael Rossman who taught him to observe the natural world carefully. Emari Dimagiba, EB middle school parent, shared how journal writing is an anchor through mental health crises, a safe space free of judgment, and an invitation to possibilities.
Our eleven student speakers from the seventh and eighth grade had been working since the beginning of school in our TEDx elective. They pitched ideas, conducted research, drafted talks, and rehearsed with coaches Sue Campbell, Roger Mullins, Dan Widmaier and Reise Tanner. We are so proud of their hard work and inspired performances and look forward to screening their talks on Youtube and our TEDxYouth@EB website next month (in the meantime, you can take a look at our unlisted livestream below).
Congratulations to our speakers, TEDx team and our EB community for a night of ideas worth spreading.
